Starting from ground zero isn’t easy. I know, because I’ve been there. When I was at my lowest point, people only saw my physical limitations, my weight, and my medical hurdles. They just assumed I wasn’t capable.
You know what they say about assuming!
Forget what anyone else thinks. Forget the limitations they tried to put on you. Badass Beginnings is a mission to reclaim your life. This is a series for the inner warrior who's tired of sitting on the sidelines and tired of hearing "you can’t do it." It’s for the part of you that is ready to rise wildly. You are not alone. Your fight matters. It’s time to let the world hear your warrior cry!
This is a beginner-friendly hike designed for new hikers and anyone standing at their own ground zero. It's a place to build strength, endurance, confidence and connection with other souls on the same mission. We begin together and we succeed together. No one is left behind. Your pace doesn't matter. Your past doesn't matter. Only your will matters!

When was the last time you intentionally watched a sunrise?

Imagine settling into the quiet as the world starts to glow. You feel the crisp morning air start to warm on your skin and you just .... watch. No noise, no to-do lists, no expectations. Just us, the horizon and the slow unfurling of light.

We're gathering to witness the wonder. This is our front row seat to the sky's daily masterpiece - a chance to sit together, soak in the sunrise, share a moment of sacred presence and recharge before the day begins. Let the sky take center stage and allow yourself to be caught up in the magic of it's beauty.

Awaken Your Senses
As we sit together, I invite you to open your senses and absorb everything nature is offering:

Sight: Watch the sky shift from indigo to apricot and gold. Catch the last glimmer of Venus (the Morning Star) before she is tucked in by the light.

Smell: Breathe in the sweet, dewy scent of the waking earth and the fresh, crisp "exhale" of the trees.

Taste: Sip the clean, cool dawn air or the cozy warmth of your favorite morning drink.

Feel: Notice the crisp air on your skin gradually soften into the first warm kiss of sunlight.

Hear: Listen fro the earliest bird chatter and the subtle shift in the wind as the light breaks the horizon.

We will meet in the parking lot and walk to the sunrise viewing location. There is 1 stone bench and other places to stand or sit along the edges. You are welcome to bring your own chair, blanket and drink.
​
Stay for the after party:
Once the sun is up, the birds take the stage! If you want to keep the nature high going, I will be hosting a Morning Bird Sound Bath & Spying event at the same location. Please RSVP for each event separately.

Prepare for a fresh, high-energy take on bird watching! This experience is all about the thrill of movement and the vibrant pulse of the morning. We’re trading the stillness for the chase, immersing ourselves in the dynamic "morning rush hour" of the wild as the lake bursts into life!
As the sun begins to warm the water and air, the world transforms into a dazzling flurry of feathers and song. We’re immersing ourselves by diving into the high-energy "morning shift" of our local birds. We’ll watch them plunge and dive, witness their powerful & instantaneous take-offs, listen to their symphony of song and chatter and try to keep up with their swift, joyful movements as they start their day!

Together, we'll:

Spy on their Personalities: Watch their interactions of the morning "social hour".

Play Visual Hide & Seek: Challenge your eyes to track them as they dart through the canopy.

Capture the Magic: If you wish, you can try to catch these lightning fast moments on camera or audio recordings to enjoy later.

There will be some walking as we let the birds decide where we will watch them but we will be standing for the rest of the time.

The picture above was the 1 1/2 buckets of tightly compacted litter found at one of the cleanest parks in the city. Proof that there is TLC to be given in all areas.

The Spirit of Friluftsliv
In the North, Friluftsliv (pronounced free-loofts-leev) is more than just a word; it’s an attitude toward "open-air living". It is the joyful practice of being outdoors regardless of the weather or temperatures. We are embracing that playful energy to explore the landscape exactly as it is, crisp, fresh, and full of life.

The Magic of Mørketid
To understand the light we are chasing, we look to the Nordic concept of Mørketid, the "dark time". While this season brings long periods of darkness to the North, it is celebrated as a magical time of connection and coziness. Nordic cultures find immense happiness in this season by shifting their focus to the "light within the dark," finding beauty in the unique colors and shadows that only emerge when the sun stays low.
​
We are drawing our inspiration from this positive perspective. Because of the Earth’s axial tilt in winter, the sun never reaches a high point in our sky. It hangs low on the horizon, casting a "lighting architecture" of long, dramatic shadows and a unique brilliance. In the heart of winter, this low sun creates a landscape of hidden brilliance that we are going to slow down and notice.

The Exploration
We are applying the Nordic mindset by heading out to capture the stunning architecture of winter as the world transitions from the golden glow into the velvety dark! This is your time to play, slow down, and notice. We’ll be wandering through the landscape to look through the lens of nature, at the beauty hidden in plain sight.
​
This is a free, joyful session designed for you to capture whatever speaks to you. No fancy gear or experience required. Please keep in mind that this is a community exploration and self-led wander rather than a workshop or teaching session. It’s simply an invitation to fall in love with the moment you capture!
​
The Sharing Circle​​
As the light settles into the deep blues of the evening, we will gather back together for a brief sharing circle. This is a low-pressure space to a couple of your favorite "catches" from the day and share what drew you to them. It’s a beautiful way to see the park through everyone else's eyes and celebrate the "light within the dark" that we found together.
